Having hard time finding a good alternative to gitbook.com. I'm looking for a really modern hosted service like Gitbook.com. Gitbook s support doesn't seem to respond at all. There is no way to call them, so I'm looking for something else. I know there is gatsbyjs.com, hexo.com and others that allow us to build one, but I'm looking for plug-and-play service where I write docs in markdown/html and setup the CNAME of my company's domain and be done with it. Any suggestions would be really helpful!

We work at a small company in south San Jose. I personally live in SF, along with 4 of the 5 other non-owners, the fifth being even farther north. The three owners live in the Belmont/San Carlos/Palo Alto area (halfway of the 1 hour drive to the SJ office on a good day). The job is engaging, meaningful, and the company is successful. Yet all of the non-owners, including myself, constantly gripe about the commute times (101 can be awful). The commute into the office can ruin your day. You could be excited for the day's itinerary, have a bad travel experience, and arrive with little to no motivation. You consciously know your productivity is diminished. You dread the drive (or public transit) home. Your negativity, even if you try to hide it, is evident and contagious. Your bosses sympathize so much as to allow you to work in accordance with off-rush hours (arrive 10/11am leave 6/7pm), but this just hurts your ability to socialize normally during the week. They try to compromise with work-from-home Fridays, which 50% of the time become a rescinded privilege due to the necessity of face-to-face interactions. The team comes together and suggests a move to a "middle ground" that does not impact the owners' commute time but drastically reduces the totality of employee commute times. The owners are hesitant because they believe that proximity to clients (SV proper) is crucial in terms of business development and contract procurement, despite nearly all interactions being made over phone and email. HN community, we implore you, what hard evidence can we provide to business owners that the success of their business is directly related to the happiness of their employees? What arguments can we make to convince the owners that their business does not rely on an office in the same general zip code as their perspective employees?

Using a throw-away because it is career suicide to express these thoughts so candidly. This post might trigger people with different views on work than mine. I'm an average developer. I can write decent, legible code, with tests, and solve a business problem according to specs. I didn't study CS and learned it all out of sheer curiosity and passion. I have about five years of experience, all at web startups. So far, so good. But here is the thing: I only like to stay for a year or less at a given place and then quit (or get laid off, even better because I get employment insurance). I go on a 1-6 months break to recharge before I have to look for work again. I'm perfectly fine staying an average developer. I want to do my 40 hours a week, sit out of office politics, go home, and do things I enjoy more with the rest of my time. I have no interest in becoming a lead or a senior dev: the extra stress isn't worth it, the Kool-Aid doesn't taste good, and I'm paid well enough as it is. It feels like I'm living a lie though because hiring managers would much rather get docile, "hungry", "passionate" people who aren't going to leave after 9-12 months. So I have to pretend while interviewing so I can get my next job and pay my bills until it's time for me to take a break again. I don't enjoy doing this because it feels dirty. So this time around, I'm looking at alternatives: how can I work on my own terms and take long breaks in-between while staying employable? Should I look for agencies and only go for 3-6-9 months contracts? Should I give up tech entirely to avoid the broken interview process and avoid burning out at work? How does one design an interface that can adapt to future requirements?). 4) Long-lasting, not chasing design trends. Any input as to what makes an interface wonderful for you to use? Any favorites? I tried to notify aruba.it of someone obviously hosting malicious code and trying to attack web servers: http://80.211.112.150/k (Reverse DNS resolves to their domain) Their reaction? 1. in the chat they redirect me to dedicated hosting support form („only way to do it“) 2. Dedicated hosting support just closes my ticket. Wow!
